MP campaigns for lower taxes on bingo
Three cheers for MP Tom Greatrex, the member for Hamilton West and Rutherglen. He recently visited a bingo hall to discuss local issues and also to talk about the level of tax on bingo in the UK. Tom has been campaigning for lower bingo taxes and is worried about the future of venues. Bingo suffers one of the highest rates of tax in the gaming industry, which prompted Tom to write a letter to the Tory Treasury Minister asking for taxes on bingo to be reduced.
Tom quite rightly believes that bingo halls are a vital part of a community, bringing people together in a friendly, social and safe environment.
Bingo halls not only have to contend with a high rate of tax and falling attendances, but the large amount of online bingo sites that have sprung up in recent years also pose a serious threat.
Lovers of online bingo should not forget their local halls and show them support whenever possible. A game of bingo makes a great night out for people of all ages, so why not get a group of your friends together and visit your local parlour?
Unfortunately, Tom didn’t have a game of bingo when he visited the hall, but said he had utmost admiration for players who were able to keep your eyes on many tickets simultaneously.
